“Legal” and “healthy” aren’t the same standard.

The EPA sets legal limits for contaminants in drinking water. If your water utility stays below those limits, they’re in compliance. No violations, no required notification.

But independent health organizations like the Environmental Working Group set much stricter guidelines based on the latest research. Their standards reflect what scientists believe is actually safe for long-term health, including for children, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems.

The gap between “legal” and “healthy” is where most of the risk lives. Your water can be in full compliance and still contain contaminants above what health researchers recommend.

That’s not fearmongering. That’s just the data.

The only way to know what’s actually in your tap is to test it.
